“Watertown near Shanghai”
Dianne Marlin – First Place winner of November Show with “Watertown near Shanghai” (oil on canvas)
“I live with my husband in Long Beach, California and have traveled the world extensively, utilizing my own photography as reference for the oil paintings I create. This journey has been inspired by my initial love of book illustrations including those of N. C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish and others from the school of artist Howard Pyle. My travels have included pilgrimages to their studios/homesteads as well as those of a wide range of master painters from Rembrandt and Leonardo da Vinci to Monet and Picasso.
“Watertown near Shanghai” was created from a montage of photos I took while visiting the ancient town of Zhujiajiao in China… we were having such a great time touring the magical canals and I wanted to be sure to capture the joy of our gondola operator.
“Sunlight on Asparagus”
I am retired from a successful career in the Graphic Design industry where I utilized my creativity, talents and expertise in positions as an Illustrator, Senior Designer, Creative Director, and Graphics Dept. Manager… but I always knew I’d return to my first love of sketching & painting.“Book Binding in Rekjavik”
I also enjoyed teaching Graphic Design and Illustration for nine years at a private college in Newport Beach, California. I studied art at California State University, Fullerton, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design with a Minor in Photography. Additional specialty training in illustration at ArtCenter College of Design and painting technique instruction at local Parkhurst Galleries has been quite beneficial to developing my painting style.”Contact Dianne Marlin:
