How and why HelvetArt Platform was created.
In a matter of months, the world has been transformed. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed life all around the globe, in many countries, inhabitants are forced to stay indoors, practicing social distancing and working remotely. The coronavirus pandemic transforms the way people live and has a very serious impact on all social activities. People are going out less, travelling less, doing business less—everything less except for spending time online. Therefore, under the current conditions of restricted mobility, it is important to offer a variety of cultural activities available online, for example as, virtual art exhibitions and networking platforms for artists. Very importantly, the outbreak has knocked out art exhibitions, galleries and cultural events all over the world. As a result, a lot of our creative energies are faced outwards: towards social media, towards disagreement, towards public mourning. Therefore, it’s important to provide a free streaming of the cultural production, as art has the right power to help us get through this uncertain time.
The coronavirus outbreak had a significant effect on my life and work as an artist. My participation in two exhibitions in Italy (beginning of the 2020) had to be cancelled. My participation in artistic residency in China in October 2020 is pending and unlikely to happen this year. Therefore, I’ve been seeking innovative ways of coping with the current situation, and I have realized that there is a need for an online platform created to showcase the work of many artists in Switzerland and around the world, whose work has been cancelled/disrupted/delayed due to the need for social distancing.
With our monthly online juried art shows, artists can gain experience in competitions, increase much needed international exposure and recognition, boost their resumes, and have an opportunity to win prizes. These are all valuable elements in having a flourishing art career.
