Interview with the First Place Winner of our March Show – Simona Zecca
“Vetla’s whisper” {oil on canvas} by Alexey Anikin was selected as a “Honorable Mention” in our July Show. Here is our short intreview with the artist.
1. How did you start creating art?
I started Drawing before I started talking. As long as I can remember, I always drew something, went with a pencil and Notepad. Most of all, I was struck by the large, dense forests that grew for many kilometers around my native village. And that’s what I depicted in my first drawings.Forest, flowers, herbs, this is the harmony of life itself, and I am happy to give this harmony to people..
2. Please tell us a bit about the artwork that was selected (style, technique, your inspiration etc).
. ” softly whispers vetla…” – this is a landmark work for me. I had been walking around this place for a long time and I knew that it was too early, I didn’t have enough experience to paint such beauty as close to the original as possible, and it was several years before I took up the brush and went there to paint this beauty. This landscape is for me the personification of the poetry of nature. There is everything to completely relax and immerse yourself in the world of this quiet, summer day, to fully recover, heal from negativity and gray everyday life, to recharge with positivity.
3. What quarantine has meant to you? Was it difficult to work in isolation and what effect this unprecedented time had on your work and creativity?
It was an interesting experience for me. On the one hand, I immersed myself in creativity, chose and built compositions for future works, gave names to those paintings that had not been named for a long time, and generally worked productively. On the other hand, there is a complete lack of exhibitions, competitions, live communication with the audience, buyers of paintings…it was hard… I am an artist and like any creative person, I am used to live communication, when the audience, looking at a picture in the hall, expresses their opinion on the work.
4. What do you think about trends in contemporary art?
Now there are very few, in my opinion, classical artists, artists who work in a classical manner. Realism is what inspires me, what we see every day, I reveal the beauty of each day in my paintings, moments of life that can be missed because of the hustle and bustle. I strive to preserve the true beauty of nature on canvas. And I am happy when I see worthy successors, painters who depict the world in all its pristine beauty.
5. Please tell us a bit about your current work and some future projects.
Now I continue to work in the genre of landscape, discover new techniques, try such compositions and stories that I did not take up before. I’m going to restore cooperation with European galleries. I am happy to prepare for exhibitions both in Russia and abroad. I am happy to bring the harmony of the landscape to the world. This is my favorite job of my life. Thank you for your attention to my paintings. I am happy that the beauty of the landscape finds a lively response in the hearts and souls.
